How do I enable two-factor authentication (2FA) in Sunwave?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Sunwave account. If you cannot enable or disable 2FA yourself, contact your IT department or Sunwave admin for assistance.

Prerequisites

  • A Sunwave user account with valid login credentials.

  • Access to a mobile device (for app-based authenticators) or a supported hard token.

  • Your IT department may need to turn 2FA on or off for your account.


Google Authenticator

Download the Google Authenticator app before beginning setup:

If you cannot scan a QR code, you can use the app with a setup key.


Enable 2FA (User Initiated)

  1. Click the profile icon in the top-right corner, next to the company logo and select User Profile.

  1. Enter your password.

  2. Select Activate 2-Factor Authentication.

  1. Click Update to confirm.


Enable 2FA (Mandatory Enforcement)

  1. Follow the on-screen prompts and select Start 2FA Setup.

  1. Once you have installed Google Authenticator, select Next.

  1. Choose a setup option:

    • QR Code (recommended)

    • Setup Key

Setup via QR Code

  1. On the setup screen, select Next.

  1. Open the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device.

  2. Tap the + sign in the bottom-right corner.

  1. Select Scan a QR Code and scan the code displayed in Sunwave.

  1. Paste the copied key and select Verify.


Setup via Setup Key

  1. On the setup screen, select Next.

  2. Copy the provided setup key.

  3. Open the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device.

  4. Tap the + sign in the bottom-right corner.

  1. Select Enter a Setup Key.

  1. Paste the copied key and select Verify.


Alternative Authentication Methods

App-based authenticators

You can also use other authentication apps such as:

  • Microsoft Authenticator

  • Salesforce Authenticator

  • Authy

Contact your IT department or see the provider’s documentation for setup instructions.

Hard token authentication

If you cannot use a mobile device or app-based method, request a hard-token device from your IT department.

For Sunwave admins: contact your Customer Success Advisor to review hard token options.
